Stress Managment

Stress is a fact of life. It is how we react (physically and emotionally) when we feel under pressure or threatened. Often, it will happen when we are in a situation that we don’t feel we can manage or control. This training will offer insights on how to manage and prevent stress.

As a result of the training, participants can expect to be able to:

Describe causes of stress
Evaluate how to improve focus and intention
Explain how to deal with stress effectively
Select techniques to lessen or alleviate stress

Grant Writing Workshop and Alternative Funding Streams
- May 3rd-4th 9am-5pm Est (In-Person)
- Location: IWU Greenwood Education Center

Description: This comprehensive workshop will encompass the vital aspects of writing a proposal that gets funded. Participants will be able to write grant sections in real time or create an organizational boilerplate for later use by completing commonly requested grant sections, including community overview; coalition or board history; organizational structure; capacity and capability; needs assessment; problem statement and SMART objectives; inclusivity and engagement; intervention implementation; and monitoring, evaluation, and outcomes. We will also examine how to diversify funding streams after a grant ends.  

As a result of this training, participants can expect to be able to:

• Map out all aspects of grant writing including how to get started and which areas to write first 

• Follow a rubric to achieve a high score 

• Use powerful sentence structure to write effectively and efficiently

• Provide data in an appropriate way to tell a compelling story

• Describe a problem within an organization to showcase funding need

• Compare a local problem or deficit with other geographical areas to prove need 

• Outline where the organization has been and its future plans in terms of goals, vision and mission

• Organize timelines and milestones

• Utilize a crosswalk resource which features sections from a multitude of grants and request for proposals

Engaging Young Adults in Prevention Planning and Implementation
- April 12 at 10:00am US/Central

Finding the right mix of volunteers for local prevention efforts can be tricky. No one wants to waste valuable time or resources, but we are left with a series of questions as we look to involve the next generation of leaders, including young adults (ages 18-25) throughout the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) process. What’s their incentive? Who are their connections? Where is their help most needed? How do we bring them into the fold? During this session we will go beyond wishing, hoping, and dreaming that our strategies are sticky enough to move Gen Z (and others) to join local prevention efforts.

Sustainability Planning Intensive Training Course (Spring 2023)
- April 18 - May 30 (weekly), 9:30am-11:00am US/Central

This 7-week intensive training course offers an interactive experience for participants to learn how to develop a sustainability plan. Sustainability planning is an intentional process of looking critically at your current prevention infrastructure, strategic planning process, and strategies to sustain meaningful prevention outcomes beyond current funding. Additional steps in sustainability planning include priority setting, resource and feasibility analysis, communication planning, and resource and grant development.

The facilitator will demonstrate how to use a set of tools to facilitate sustainability planning with community partners and will coach participants to set actionable steps and timelines to complete a plan over the next year. This course offers structured, skill-based learning opportunities, readings, and learning assignments to complete between sessions, along with group activities and discussions to enhance application of the new skills.

Using ACE Data to Impact Substance Misuse Prevention
- April 20, 10:00am US/Central

During this online session, we will discuss how adverse childhood experiences (ACE) contribute to substance misuse and engage in a peer-to-peer discussion on best practices for preventing ACE in communities. We will explore methods of analyzing data to measure the impact of prevention work and the impact of evidence-based prevention on a community.

Please join us for this interactive workshop that will provide an opportunity for discussion on ACE data, and additional resources available about the impact of prevention on ACE in your communities. Participants will have an opportunity to request additional tools.
