ICSUS 2025: Coming Soon!
2- and 4-year institutions of higher education across the state of Indiana are currently registering for the Spring 2025 Indiana College Substance Use Survey (ICSUS). The Survey is funded by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction and collects data on substance use, gambling, and other risky behaviors. Reach out to your local institution(s) to see if they are registered and to voice your support.
If you’re not affiliated with an Indiana college or university, you can STILL get excited about ICSUS! ICSUS data can contribute to…
-
Early Intervention Insights. Community coalitions that understand harmful behaviors among college students can identify which behaviors start in high school or earlier, and can intervene before these issues escalate.
-
Assessment and Planning. ICSUS data highlights broader community substance use trends, norms, and availability that may also be relevant to non-student populations. ICSUS data can strengthen community-wide grant applications and strategic planning efforts.
-
Community-Level Advocacy. Community coalitions and institutions of higher education can share data and collaborate to make the case for local policies and resources that benefit college students, younger youth, and others.
To learn more about what ICSUS data can do for you, check out the resources on our website: https://collegesurvey.indiana.edu/

Cris Henderson, a research associate at Prevention Insights and a doctoral student at the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington in the Department of Applied Health Sciences, serves as the project director for the COR program. In October, Henderson was invited to participate in the inaugural White House Challenge to Save Lives from Opioid Overdose
roundtable event. |
|
The COR program, originally developed and tested as part of a larger NIH-funded study in 2020, is a science-based, customized training program rooted in adult learning principles. It addresses various critical topics such as scene safety, Good Samaritan laws, and connects participants to local and state resources. Designed to enhance community-based overdose education and naloxone distribution efforts, the program has been implemented in Dearborn County since 2022.
Residents and workers in Dearborn County who complete the training are eligible to receive free naloxone (Narcan) from the Dearborn County Health Department. To learn more about the Dearborn County COR Initiative click here. |
|
|
|
Earlier this year, Henderson and their team were awarded the
Affinity Giving Award
by the IU Foundation, providing funding to expand the COR program across Indiana. As of October 2024, the training will be available on five IU campuses (Bloomington, Columbus, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Southeast) and will also extend to three additional counties (Clark, Floyd, and Monroe). Individuals who live or work in these areas can complete the training, receive a certificate of completion, and will be directed to resources for obtaining free naloxone as well as be connected to other local and statewide support services.
