Citizen Opioid Responders (COR) is a free, online naloxone training program designed to reduce deaths from opioid overdoses. The program recruits, trains, and connects citizen responders who can recognize an overdose and administer lifesaving naloxone (also known by the brand name Narcan). Upon completion of the training, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.
Program Support
Implementation of the COR program is supported by the Women's Philanthropy Leadership Council and individual donors through the Indiana University Foundation's Affinity Giving Grant.
Roadmap
COR launched across five IU campuses in 2024–2025, and it is expanding in 2025–2026 through continued funding to reach all nine IU campuses and their surrounding communities. This next phase also increases access to naloxone through the purchase and installation of NaloxBoxes on each IU campus.
Program Goals
The purpose of COR is to increase the number of people trained and carrying naloxone, individuals who feel ready, willing, and able to render aid when an overdose occurs. By completing the training, IU students, faculty, staff, and community members are empowered to act and become part of a growing network of responders prepared to make a lifesaving difference.
